A Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled that former President Goodluck Jonathan is eligible to contest the 2027 presidential election. Justice Peter Lifu held that Jonathan’s completion of late President Umaru Yar’Adua’s term and subsequent election in 2011 do not constitute two terms, citing previous court decisions.
The court’s decision has sparked mixed reactions, with some hailing it as a victory for democracy and others expressing concerns about the implications for Nigeria’s constitutional limits on presidential terms.
