The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has arrested 1,691 individuals within five days in a special operation dubbed “Operation Guduma” conducted in 11 states across Nigeria.
According to the FRSC, 683 people were arrested for overloading passengers and goods, while 1,003 were arrested for offenses related to vehicle registration.
Additionally, five individuals were apprehended for allegedly using fake diplomatic plates.
FRSC’s head, Shehu Mohammed, stated that investigations revealed some individuals use fraudulent means to evade the law, posing a threat to road safety and security.
He emphasized that the agency will continue to crack down on those violating traffic laws nationwide.
The operation aims to reduce the alarming rate of accidents caused by non-compliance with traffic regulations.
The FRSC hopes this effort will raise awareness about the importance of adhering to traffic laws.
The agency urges passengers and goods transporters to follow traffic rules for their safety and security.
