Kano State Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf has completed the multi-billion naira flyover projects at “Kafar Nisa” and “Tal udu” aimed at reducing traffic congestion and accidents. The projects, part of Yusuf’s administration initiatives, include the Taludu interchange, a cloverleaf flyover estimated at N12 billion, and the Dan Agundi interchange, consisting of a flyover and underpass valued at N15 billion .
Despite the completion of these magnificent structures, nighttime activities of thugs have become a major concern for motorists and tricycle riders. Eyewitnesses report that snatching of phones and other belongings has resumed, with thugs converting Dan Agundi into their area of operation.
Many attribute the insecurity to the lack of street lighting, making it easy for thugs to operate undetected. The Commissioner of Information, Abdullahi Waiya, was unreachable for comment on the delay in commissioning the projects and addressing the security concerns.
The projects were among the initial undertakings of Abba’s administration, with no reported loss of life during construction. However, the absence of adequate lighting has emboldened thugs, making the area a hotspot for criminal activities.
The Northern Star online attempted to reach Commissioner Waiya for updates on the project’s completion and security measures but received no response. Visits to his office over two weeks also yielded no results.
The state government had allocated N27 billion for the construction of these interchanges, aimed at improving traffic flow and socio-economic activities in Kano.
The projects are part of Governor Yusuf’s efforts to modernize Kano’s infrastructure, with a focus on transportation and urban development.
