The Zuru Constituency bye-election in Kebbi State has concluded peacefully, with voters turning out in large numbers to cast their ballots. The election, held to fill the vacancy left by the late Hon. Muhammadu Usman Ankwe, former Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, featured Alhaji Rabiu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Alhaji Aliyu Galadima of the Labour Party (LP).
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reported that the election was conducted across all 200 polling units in the Zuru Local Government Area, with the Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami Gomo III, among those who queued to cast their votes.
A committee constituted by the APC State Chairman, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar Kana Zuru, worked closely with INEC and security agencies to ensure a hitch-free process. The collation of results was ongoing at the time of the report, with INEC officials, security agencies, and party agents present.
The peaceful conduct of the election underscores the commitment of Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, to peace, unity, and democratic governance. The results are expected to be announced by the Returning Officer for the bye-election in Zuru Constituency.
The election is seen as a test of the APC’s strength in the state, with the party having won all 21 council seats in the recent local government elections.
