Former Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has been accused of embezzling N308 million allegedly collected in the name of conducting special prayers in 44 local government areas of the state. The accusation was made by Sheikh Musa Falaki, Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Islamic Affairs.
Falaki claimed that the former leadership of the Association of Local Government Councils (ALGON) in Kano collected N44 million monthly for seven months, supposedly for conducting prayers. He stated that he and Sheikh Ibrahim Sheshi Maihula were supposed to lead the prayers, but they were unaware of the money being collected in their names.
According to Falaki, neither he nor Sheikh Maihula received any part of the money, and the prayers were not conducted as claimed. The matter came to light after the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) invited them for questioning.
Falaki alleged that Gwarzo was responsible for embezzling the funds meant for the prayer program. He added that Gwarzo has also been asked to return over N700 million allegedly embezzled from the 44 local government areas in Kano State.
The accusations against Gwarzo are part of an ongoing investigation by PCACC. As of the time of reporting, Gwarzo had not responded to the allegations made by Sheikh Musa Falaki.
