The Federal Government has clarified that it hasn’t approved Adire as the new uniform for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members. Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, stated that his mention of Adire and Ankara fabrics was only to illustrate examples being considered in ongoing consultations, not an official approval of any new uniform material.
Olawande emphasized that no final decision has been made on the replacement or design of the NYSC uniform. The government is considering different options that would reflect professionalism, Nigerian identity, durability, cost-effectiveness, and national pride. The proposed changes are part of a broader reform of the NYSC, aimed at making the scheme more relevant and effective.
The reforms, approved by the Federal Executive Council, include skills-based deployment of corps members, civilian operational leadership, and amendments to the NYSC Act. The government has assured that any eventual decision on the uniform will be guided by extensive stakeholder engagement and what best serves the interests of the NYSC and the nation.
