A high-power delegation from across Northern Nigeria converged at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, for the maiden 2026 Arewa Media Summit. Kebbi State emerged with the second-largest government delegation at the historic event.
The Kebbi State delegation was led by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, who represented Governor Nasir Idris, one of the Special Guests of Honour. Other members included the SA Media, SA Communications Strategy, SA Public Enlightenment, SA New Media, and the Chief Press Secretary, among others.
Speaking through the Commissioner, Governor Nasir Idris said Kebbi has every reason to celebrate President Bola Ahmed Tinubuโs achievements. He noted that of the 1000km Super Highway from Illela to Badagry, over 250km is being constructed in Kebbi State, among other federal projects in the state.
The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, delivered the keynote address on the theme: โGovernment-Citizen Accord: Accountability, Responsibility and Ethical Media Practice.โ He urged media practitioners to prioritize fact-checking and responsible reporting.
The two-day summit, which began on Monday, was organised by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Public Enlightenment, AbdulAziz AbdulAziz, in collaboration with the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Governor Idris congratulated the conveners, describing the summit as timely for strengthening the capacity of journalists and social media influencers on objective and ethical reportage. He also commended the platform for promoting dialogue between government and the media.
While over a thousand participants from different media houses attended, several states were absent. Sokoto, Niger, Zamfara, Taraba, Adamawa, Borno, Bauchi, Nassarawa, Kogi, Plateau and Katsina were not represented at the summit.
The summit focused on ethical media practice, responsible journalism, national development, security, unity and strengthening collaboration between government and the media. The Kebbi delegation also reaffirmed support for the โGani Ya Kori Jiโ media tour and other initiatives to promote the achievements of the APC-led administration.
