In what political observers are calling a strategic welfare gesture, Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, has rewarded 1,589 ballot box custodians popularly known as โDangwaleโ with plots of land and cash.
. Each of the custodians received one plot of land, totaling 1,589 plots distributed across the state. In addition, the Governor approved N100 million to be shared among them.
The Governor, popularly called Gida-Gida, presented the gifts during a meeting with the custodians in Kano. He described them as critical stakeholders in the stateโs electoral process who deserve recognition and support.
According to him, the gesture is to appreciate their service, encourage diligence, and ensure they remain committed to protecting the integrity of elections in Kano.
Political analysts say the timing of the empowerment, ahead of 2027, signals the administrationโs plan to strengthen its grassroots structure and consolidate support at polling unit level.
โTwo heads are better than one,โ a party chieftain at the event noted, adding that rewarding loyal foot soldiers early builds morale and guarantees a united front during elections.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Governor, pledging to continue safeguarding election materials and mobilizing voters for the NNPP in future polls.
With land and financial empowerment now in their hands, the Dangwale are expected to play a more visible role in the partyโs mobilization drive as Kano politics begins to gear up for the 2027 general elections.
