Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has established a 25-members Reconciliation Committee to address grievances arising from the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in the state. The committee, led by Deputy Governor Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, aims to harmonize and unite party members ahead of the 2023 general election.
The committee’s formation was necessitated by differences that emerged during the party primaries. Governor Yahaya emphasized that the committee’s work is crucial in maintaining party unity and ensuring victory for APC in the upcoming elections.
The reconciliation committee’s terms of reference include identifying aggrieved party members, discussing issues with them, and suggesting ways to prevent similar occurrences in the future. Governor Yahaya expressed confidence that the committee would resolve the issues and promote party unity.
The committee’s establishment is not unique to Gombe State, as other states and the national level have set up similar committees to address party grievances. Governor Yahaya noted that the President has also engaged with aggrieved National Assembly members to find common ground.
The Governor urged party members to forgive and be understanding, emphasizing that leadership should be viewed from the prism of trust, accountability, integrity, and patriotism. He also appealed to leaders to prioritize the party’s and state’s interests over personal ambitions.
The committee’s work is expected to promote party unity and ensure APC’s victory in the 2023 elections. Governor Yahaya has promised to implement the committee’s recommendations to achieve this goal.
The reconciliation committee’s report has since been submitted to Governor Yahaya, who expressed satisfaction with the outcome. He noted that no aggrieved party member has defected, demonstrating the party’s maturity and commitment to democratic values.
The Governor’s efforts to promote party unity and address grievances are seen as a positive step towards achieving electoral success and maintaining stability in Gombe State.
