Troops of the Joint Task Force in Kano have foiled a bandits’ attack and prevented cattle rustling along the Yankamaye and Rimaye axis on the Kano-Katsina boundary.
According to the Army, the operation was carried out at about 5:45pm on July 15, 2026, following credible intelligence about the movement of suspected rustlers in the area.
Troops from Forward Operating Bases, reinforced by Response Area troops, laid an ambush at known bandits’ crossing points and intercepted the fleeing criminals as they attempted to escape with stolen livestock.
During an exchange of gunfire, the soldiers overwhelmed the bandits, forcing them to abandon the rustled animals and flee towards Katsina State.
At the end of the operation, troops recovered 97 cattle, 50 sheep, and one motorcycle. Two suspected terrorists were also captured during the encounter.
The Army confirmed that the recovered cattle have since been returned to their rightful owners, bringing relief to affected communities along the border.
Sadly, one vigilante, Mallam Yusuf Adamu, 47, from Yanchibi Village, lost his life after being caught in the crossfire. The Army has commiserated with his family and the entire community over the loss.
Commander of 3 Brigade, Brig. Gen. Saka Jimoh, commended the troops for their alertness and professionalism during the operation. He urged them to sustain the tempo until all bandits operating in the area are neutralized.
Brig. Gen. Jimoh also thanked residents for providing timely intelligence and assured that troops are still combing the area in pursuit of fleeing bandits. He reiterated the military’s commitment to protecting lives and property in Kano and neighboring states.
