
Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, is mourning the death of his beloved mother, Madam Mary Amaechi.
The family announced that Mama Amaechi passed away on Wednesday at the age of 92. She died peacefully at her home in Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Amaechi described his mother as a woman of great faith, discipline and compassion who raised him and his siblings with strong moral values.
“My mother was my first teacher and my strongest supporter. She taught us the fear of God, hard work, and humility,” the former minister said in the statement.
Madam Mary Amaechi was widely known in Ubima community for her generosity, prayers, and commitment to community service. She was a devoted Christian and a member of the Catholic Church.
Condolence messages have continued to pour in from political associates, traditional rulers, and Nigerians across party lines who acknowledged the role Mama played in shaping Amaechiโs life and career.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari, governors, and National Assembly members were among those who called to sympathize with the Amaechi family over the loss.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family in due course. The Amaechi family has requested prayers and privacy during this period of grief.
Rotimi Amaechi served as Governor of Rivers State for 8 years and later as Minister of Transportation for 7 years under the APC administration. He said his motherโs legacy of service and integrity will continue to guide him and the family.
