Some constituents of Kaduna North Federal Constituency have petitioned the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), calling for an investigation into an allegation of cocaine use involving their representative in the House of Representatives, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai.
The petition, dated September 8, was signed by Abubakar Hayatu of Kabala Ward and Musa Tukur of Unguwar Gaji Ward.
The petitioners reportedly urged the NDLEA to investigate the allegation and establish whether there is any basis to the claim.
They said the matter was of concern to constituents and warranted clarification by the appropriate law-enforcement authority.
The petition comes amid public discussion surrounding allegations made against the federal lawmaker.
The constituents said their request was intended to ensure that the allegation is properly examined rather than left to speculation.
They called on the NDLEA to use its statutory powers to investigate the matter and make its findings known.
As of the information provided, there is no indication that the NDLEA has publicly confirmed the allegation or established that El-Rufai used cocaine.
El-Rufai, the son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
The petitioners’ action places the allegation before the relevant anti-drug agency for possible investigation and clarification.
