The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State has replaced its earlier governorship candidate, Muhammad Bello Dalha, with Alhaji Muhammad Sani Abacha, son of Nigeria’s late Head of State, General Sani Abacha.
The decision followed the withdrawal of Dalha, who was previously declared winner of the party’s governorship primary election. State PDP Chairman, Dr Bello Gambo Bichi, disclosed this at an expanded state executive committee meeting held in Kano on Wednesday.
Bichi said the replacement primary was conducted in accordance with the party’s constitution and relevant electoral laws.
He said Muhammad Sani Abacha was subsequently affirmed and formally declared the party’s candidate by the panel chairman, Dr Abba Abdullahi.
The party also announced measures to resolve its internal factional disputes, including conceding the deputy governorship slot to the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki faction.
Consequently, former factional chairman and ex-commissioner, Alhaji Yusuf Ado Kibiya, was named as the new deputy governorship candidate.
Bichi said the reconciliation had ended the factional differences within the Kano PDP, adding that representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) witnessed the exercise.
The party also replaced some National and State Assembly candidates as part of the reconciliation process ahead of the 2027 elections
