The Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called on the leadership of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, to translate the knowledge acquired during their week-long study tour of Kano into actionable policies that will drive Nigeria’s overall development.
The Governor delivered the charge on Saturday through his Deputy, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, at a farewell dinner organized for the NIPSS delegation at the Government House in Kano. The event marked the conclusion of the institute’s one-week field engagement in the state.
Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to NIPSS for selecting Kano as one of its research destinations. He said the delegation’s direct interface with government officials, traditional institutions, the business community, and ordinary citizens provided valuable insight into the socio-economic realities and challenges confronting the state.
According to the Governor, such grassroots engagement is critical for a policy think-tank like NIPSS, because it bridges the gap between academic research and practical governance. He urged the participants to ensure that their recommendations reflect the true needs of the people.
Leading the delegation, Brigadier General L. A. Jimoh, MNI, said the visit gave members a first-hand opportunity to evaluate Kano’s development strategies. He noted particular interest in how the state is mobilizing human capital, innovation, and commerce to pursue sustainable growth.
General Jimoh specifically commended the Kano administration for its investment in skills development. He highlighted the revival of 26 vocational training centers and the training of over 20,000 youths as evidence of a deliberate effort to tackle unemployment and empower women and young people.
In recognition of their support and hospitality, the NIPSS team presented awards to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Secretary to the State Government, and the Commissioner for Special Duties. The awards were in appreciation of the cooperation extended to the delegation during the study tour.
In return, the Kano State Government presented gift hampers to the leadership of NIPSS and some members of the institute. Officials described the gesture as a token of gratitude for choosing Kano and for the institute’s commitment to proffering solutions to national challenges.
The delegation concluded by thanking Governor Yusuf, Deputy Governor Garo, and the people of Kano for their warm reception and the enabling environment provided throughout the visit. Both parties expressed optimism that the outcomes of the engagement would contribute meaningfully to policy formulation at the national level.
