As political activities ahead of the 2027 governorship election gather momentum in Gombe State, fresh arguments have emerged over who possesses the political structure and grassroots support needed to lead the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the next electoral contest. Supporters of Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, the Sardaunan Gombe, insist that political success is built on years of service, relationships and public trust rather than popularity on social media.
The position was articulated by the spokesperson to Dr. Gwamna, Ibrahim Sani Shawai, who argued that politics is not built overnight through academic credentials or public visibility alone.
According to him, enduring political influence comes from sustained engagement with the people, sacrifice, loyalty and the ability to build strong grassroots structures across communities.
Shawai maintained that when these factors are considered, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami cannot be compared with Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna in the politics of Gombe State.
He said Sardauna has spent more than two decades investing in people, strengthening political relationships and supporting communities across the state.
According to the statement, Dr. Gwamna’s political reach extends beyond elected politicians, embracing youths, women, business owners, religious groups, professionals, retired public servants, community leaders and ordinary citizens who have benefited from his long-standing engagements.
The spokesperson further disclosed that more than 1,300 volunteer youth and women support groups are currently mobilising across the state in support of Dr. Gwamna. He noted that the groups are coordinated voluntarily by Hon. Ahmed Usman, popularly known as Fada, demonstrating what he described as genuine grassroots commitment.
He also highlighted the existence of a strong business community network under the leadership of Alhaji Saidu Mai Silifas, alongside support from retired directors, permanent secretaries, members of the Alarammomi Forum and other community stakeholders who have aligned themselves with the Sardauna movement.
Shawai added that the growing wave of political realignments and defections into the APC, particularly by individuals identifying with the Sardauna political family, has continued to strengthen Dr. Gwamna’s political base ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
He stressed that the movement surrounding Dr. Gwamna should not be viewed merely as an election campaign organisation but as the result of years of deliberate political investment, grassroots acceptability and consistent relationships with diverse segments of society.
He also pointed to Dr. Gwamna’s experience in both the private and public sectors as evidence of his capacity to provide effective leadership.
The spokesperson concluded that Gombe State requires a leader with proven administrative experience, the ability to attract investment, create employment opportunities, strengthen institutions and consolidate the developmental achievements of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya. He expressed confidence that Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna possesses the qualities needed to provide such leadership if entrusted with the responsibility.
