The Imole Campaign Council, the campaign organisation of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has alleged that there are plans by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare Saturday’s governorship election inconclusive despite what it described as clear signs of victory for the governor.
In a statement issued during the election, the campaign council expressed concern over what it called attempts to frustrate the democratic will of the people.
It claimed that available results from various polling units indicated that Governor Adeleke was maintaining a strong lead across the state.
According to the council, any move to declare the election inconclusive would amount to a deliberate effort to deny the people of Osun State the opportunity to have their votes respected. It insisted that the electorate had turned out peacefully to exercise their constitutional rights.
The campaign organisation called on INEC to remain impartial and transparent throughout the collation and announcement of results. It urged the electoral umpire to ensure that only verified results from polling units determine the outcome of the election.
The council also appealed to security agencies to remain vigilant and prevent any attempt to manipulate the electoral process. It stressed that the credibility of the election depended on the integrity of the institutions responsible for conducting and securing the exercise.
While expressing confidence in Governor Adeleke’s chances, the campaign urged its supporters to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding. It warned against any action that could lead to violence or disrupt the collation process.
The Imole Campaign Council further stated that it would closely monitor developments at the state collation centre and would continue to engage relevant stakeholders to safeguard what it described as the mandate freely given by the people.
As of the time the allegation was made, INEC had not officially responded to the claims or announced any decision regarding the status of the election.
The commission continued the collation of results from across the state.
The Osun governorship election has attracted significant national attention, with political parties and observers closely monitoring the process. The final outcome will depend on the official declaration by INEC after the completion of collation and verification of all lawful votes.
