Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has said he did not go into politics out of desperation for wealth, power or political patronage, stressing that Almighty Allah had blessed him financially before he ventured into politics.
Ndume made the assertion in a post shared on Facebook by one of his close allies, where he reflected on his journey from humble beginnings to becoming a lecturer, businessman and eventually a prominent politician.
The senator said his financial independence was built through education, hard work, business and what he described as “hustling,” insisting that he had never depended on any individual for his livelihood before joining politics.
According to him, he bought his present house in Maiduguri in 1994, several years before his political career began, saying the development was an indication that his economic foundation predated his entry into public office.
Ndume further disclosed that before joining politics, he had already married two wives and owned five cars, arguing that his decision to enter politics was therefore not driven by the search for material comfort.
He also said his businesses remain a source of income for him, with members of his family involved in running the ventures.
He added that he is a trade partner of major telecommunications companies, including MTN and Airtel.
The senator, who has spent more than two decades in Nigeria’s political space, said his story should be understood as a journey from humble beginnings to financial independence before assuming political responsibilities.
Ndume said his achievements were made possible through perseverance, enterprise and divine favour, stressing that his political career should not be mistaken for the foundation of his personal wealth.
He ended his reflection by expressing gratitude to Almighty Allah, saying, “Alhamdulillah,” and reaffirming his belief that his journey demonstrates how hard work, determination and faith can transform the life of an individual even before entering politics.
