The Kaduna State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) is set to hold the maiden edition of the Bashir Adamu Chedi Annual Memorial Lecture on August 29, 2026, in Kaduna.
The lecture is being organised in honour of the late Mallam Bashir Adamu Chedi, a former Chairman and Council Member of the NIPR Kaduna State Chapter, in recognition of his contributions to the development of the Institute and his commitment to mentoring young professionals.
The maiden lecture, themed “Bridging Generations: Strengthening Public Relations Through Mentorship,” is expected to attract public relations practitioners, academics, government officials, media professionals, students and other stakeholders from across the country.
The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, FNIPR, will serve as Special Guest of Honour, while the President and Chairman of Council of NIPR, Dr. Ike Neliaku, FNIPR, will be the Chief Host.
The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, FNIPR, is expected to chair the occasion, while Dr. Nkechi Ali-Balogun, FNIPR, will deliver the memorial lecture as Guest Speaker.
Chairman of the NIPR Kaduna State Chapter, Haroun Malami, MNIPR, said the initiative was conceived to preserve the legacy of the late Chedi and provide an avenue for professionals to reflect on the values of service, professionalism, leadership and mentorship that he represented.
Malami said Chedi was deeply committed to the advancement of public relations and particularly encouraged younger practitioners to learn, develop their skills and make meaningful contributions to the profession.
He described the memorial lecture as a platform for transferring knowledge and experience between generations.
He added that mentorship had become increasingly important as the public relations industry continues to change rapidly due to technology, digital media and evolving stakeholder expectations. According to him, effective mentorship can connect professional experience with new ideas and innovation.
The organisers said the lecture would also provide an opportunity to discuss intergenerational collaboration, ethical practice, professional development and the future of public relations in Nigeria.
The Kaduna NIPR Chapter has therefore invited practitioners, academics, government officials, students, media professionals and other stakeholders to join in celebrating the life and enduring contributions of Mallam Bashir Adamu Chedi.
The Chapter expressed optimism that the annual memorial lecture would develop into a lasting platform for knowledge exchange, professional reflection and the nurturing of future generations of public relations practitioners.
