….Says New Body Will Ensure Equal Care With Conventional Schools

The Kano State Government has announced plans to establish a dedicated commission to oversee the welfare and education of Almajiri children and other out-of-school children across the state.
The Commissioner for Education, Gwani Ali Haruna Makoda, said the commission will be modeled to provide the same level of care, infrastructure, and learning support currently enjoyed by pupils in conventional schools.
Makoda disclosed this on Saturday while hosting a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Education in his office. The team was led by Dr. Balarabe Shehu Makale, Special Assistant to the Minister of Education on Almajiri Education and Out-of-School Children.
According to the commissioner, the decision reflects Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to reform the Almajiri system and integrate it into the state’s formal education framework. He noted that thousands of children in the state deserve access to quality learning and social protection.
For too long, Almajiri and out-of-school children have been left at the margins of our education system. This commission will ensure they are not left behind. They will get teachers, learning materials, healthcare and feeding, just like children in basic schools,” Makoda stated.
Dr. Makale, in his remarks, commended Kano State for taking proactive steps. He said the Federal Government is working with states to develop a harmonized policy that blends Quranic education with literacy, numeracy and skills acquisition.
The Special Assistant added that the visit was part of nationwide consultations to understand state-level challenges and to align federal interventions
