Sources said the official cited dissatisfaction with some policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
He specifically faulted policies he said were making life harder for farmers and traders.
He pointed to Northern Nigeria as the most affected region.
According to him, the high cost of living is biting hard.
The rising price of farm inputs and general economic hardship have hurt agriculture and commerce in the North.
He said these challenges directly influenced his decision to change political direction.
