ABUJA — A young man identified as Muhammad Mansur has admitted to giving his girlfriend meat laced with a substance he described as a “love charm,” after the two were found together following 30 days of her being away from home.
According to accounts shared by the girl, the incident began when the suspect gave her meat to eat. She said she only discovered later that something had been put inside it. Shortly after eating, she said he instructed her to follow him, and she did so without resistance.
For the next 30 days, the girl stayed with Mansur. During that period, her family said they had no idea of her whereabouts. Details of what transpired within those 30 days were not fully disclosed, but sources close to the case described them as distressing for the victim and her relatives.
The matter came to light after the pair were reportedly found together, leading to Mansur’s arrest and questioning. It was during this interrogation that he confirmed the incident and gave his own explanation for his actions.
Mansur told investigators that he did not act with evil intentions. He claimed he gave her the meat because of the depth of his love and affection for her. He said he wanted her to stay with him and felt desperate.
He also stated that he never believed the charm would actually work. In his words, he thought it was not real and only decided to try it on his girlfriend as an experiment. To his surprise, he said, it appeared to have an effect.
When asked if he now intends to marry the girl after spending a month with her, Mansur said he currently does not have the financial means to pay her bride price. However, he insisted that he still loves her and wants to be with her.
The case has sparked discussion in the community about consent, harmful traditional practices, and the responsibilities that come with relationships. Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and further action will be taken based on their findings and the law.
