The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) candidate, Abdulmalik Nagenu, was omitted from the local government election held on Saturday in Niger State.
His omission sparked controversy and tension, which eventually escalated into violence when his supporters allegedly attacked the convoy of Niger State Governor Umar Bago.
The incident led to the arrest of Abdulmalik Nagenu, who was accused of masterminding the attack.
The NNPP had reportedly planned to field candidates for the election, but their names and party logos were excluded from the ballot papers, leading to widespread protests and clashes.
The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) has not officially commented on the reasons behind the omission.
However, the incident has raised concerns about the credibility and transparency of the electoral process. However, the NSIEC has declared APC the winner of the 25 Local Government Council Chairmanship seat.
With, PDP wins 3 Councillorship seat while that of NNPP Bida was declared winner too despite commission of the NNPP.
