The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna) and the Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), Minna Chapter, has recently entered into a partnership to drive the success of the University’s newly approved College of Medicine and Health Sciences.
During a courtesy visit to the institution on recently, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, confirmed that the National Universities Commission (NUC) had granted formal approval for FUT Minna to commence medical programmes in the 2025/2026 academic session.
Prof. Kuta highlighted ongoing preparations, including a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Medical Centre, Bida, which will serve as the teaching hospital, and significant infrastructural support from stakeholders, among them a ₦100 million donation from Governor Mohammed Umar Bago for a female hostel and a male hostel gift from philanthropist Dr. Rabiu Abdulsamad.
He noted that the college’s establishment would address long standing admission challenges faced by Niger State indigenes and called for MDCAN’s continued partnership to ensure the college’s smooth take-off.
In his response, MDCAN Chairman, Dr. Yahaya Mustapha Makanta, praised the University’s leadership for its foresight, describing the medical college as a landmark initiative that would bridge the state’s healthcare manpower gap.
He reaffirmed MDCAN’s commitment to supporting the college academically and clinically, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of medical training.
Dr. Makanta added that the college would not only produce locally relevant medical professionals but also enhance healthcare delivery, reduce medical tourism, and expand research opportunities within Niger State.
