If governorship elections were to be conducted across the country this very moment, the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf would overwhelmingly sweep the polls.
Opinion polls conducted across the 44 local government areas revealed that the people of the state are favourably disposed to the continuation in office of the incumbent, in view of his stellar performance in virtually all sectors of the state economy.
According to the polls, about 61 percent of the people of the state, particularly within the age brackets, of 19 years and above, expressed satisfaction with the way and manner the governor has been discharging his constitutional duties, without making too much noise.
However, 32 percent of those interviewed, would prefer another candidate, particularly from the All Progressives Congress, even as the remaining 7 percent are yet to decide who to support in the next gubernatorial elections.
Eligible voters interviewed across the state revealed that Governor Yusuf is receiving tremendous support in both Kano South and Kano Central senatorial districts, owing to some obvious reasons, while an average number of those in Kano North expressed satisfaction with his performance, since assumption of office.
In Kano Central for example, the governor is receiving overwhelming support, due to the influence of the political leader and former governor of the state, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as well as the way and manner the present administration has carried the people of the area along in the scheme of things.
A resident of Kano metropolis, Ahmad Bature pointed out that the construction of 17 dilapidated roads network in Kano town has tremendously improved the socio-economic well-being of the people, describing Governor Yusuf as a focused leader.
In his view, Musa Mustafa who hails from Dawakin Kudu local government, but resides in Kano metropolis, described the inter change projects to improve connectivity within Kano town and restoration of Tamburawa water plant, as well as procurement of additional pumping machines to boost water supply in the state, as no mean achievements.
He said they would not only support the governor, in view of his superlative performance, but are also committed to ensure he continues in office in the next political dispensation; disclosing that ” one good term deserves another”.
Another resident of Kano metropolis, Ustaz Yunus Aliyu in his opinion, commended the governor for constructing about 70- kilometres rural access roads across the three senatorial districts, saying the gesture has enhanced agricultural and rural development of the state.
Furthermore, Uche Kanayo, another resident of Sabon-gari, in Kano metropolis, who disclosed that he has been in the ancient town since 1978, pointed out that the ongoing constructions and expansion of Kano township roads, are unprecedented, describing Governor Yusuf as a silent achiever.
Equally, Governor Yusuf has received high approval rating from his people in Kano South senatorial district, as most of the eligible voters interviewed expressed confidence that the incumbent would win overwhelmingly in the next gubernatorial elections.
Muhammad Bilyamin specifically commended the governor for his concerted efforts in establishing a polytechnic in Gaya town, saying the positive development has endeared the governor to the people of the area and its environs.
However, in the Northern axis of the state, majority of those interviewed, expressed support for the deputy senate president , Distinguished Senator Barau Jibrin, saying they prefer him to take over the mantle of leadership and put the state in the mainstream politics of the country.
Ibrahim Na- Mallam opined that they appreciated the efforts of Senator Jibrin in converting the Federal Polytechnic, Kabo to university of science and technology as well as other gestures too numerous to mention, maintaining that they are prepared to elect him as the next governor of the state.
However, some eligible voters interviewed in Gabasawa, Bagwai, Dawakin Tofa and Shanono local government areas differ in opinion with Na- Mallam, as they still prefer the incumbent to continue to pilot the affairs of Kano State.

Usman Balarabe said the proactive measures taken by the governor, which led to the deployment of security agents to border areas with Katsina State has frustrated the activities of bandits, adding that those of them from Shanono and Bagwai areas would continue to appreciate the governor for such wonderful gesture.
Similarly, Umar Salman noted that they are fully in support of the governor since he has not forgotten them in his developmental projects, disclosing that the construction and dualization of five- kilometres Dawakin Tofa township road with solar street light, as well as the establishment of a model village known as Doga village, are some noticeable achievements of the present administration in the Northern axis of the state.
