There was tension in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State after the death of Alhaji Ibrahim Nagode, father of a known bandit figure, during an operation carried out by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force.
Nagode, aged 60, lived in Na’alma village and was the father of Haruna Ibrahim, popularly called Fada. His death occurred at a moment when the area was trying to ease years of hostility through a newly negotiated peace deal between bandit groups and nearby communities.
According to sources who spoke with Zagazola Makama, the shooting happened just as Fada was returning to the village, a move that was supposed to reinforce the fragile agreement reached with local leaders. The timing of the incident has deepened the sense of unease, with many residents unsure of how bandit groups might react.
Security officials explained that the community had been nervous for days after receiving intelligence reports suggesting that armed groups were gathering in the surrounding areas. In response, joint security teams were deployed to intensify patrols and prevent any fresh attacks. However, during one of these operations, Nagode was shot and later confirmed dead.
Following the incident, the Department of State Services took all CJTF members involved into custody as investigations began. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation amid fears that the killing could result in retaliation, putting the peace efforts at risk.
Community leaders and security agencies have emphasized the importance of preserving ongoing dialogue, warning that any breakdown could undo recent progress. They stressed that both sides must uphold the commitments made during negotiations if the region is to avoid slipping back into violence.
Security operatives have also called on residents to stay watchful and promptly report any unusual movements or threats.
