The Kano State Government has expressed strong concern over recent remarks attributed to former Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Barau I. Jibrin, describing their comments as “inciting, reckless, and capable of undermining public peace.”
Briefing journalists shortly after the 34th Executive Council meeting, the Commissioner for Information an Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said the Council deliberated extensively on statements by the two politicians alleging that Kano had become vulnerable to banditry and proposing the recruitment of 12,000 youths into a religious corps known as Khairul Nas.
Waiya explained that the Council viewed the comments as dangerous, noting that they had the potential to instill fear, destabilize local communities, and undermine the combined efforts of the Federal and State Governments to secure Kano.
He further revealed that within 48 hours of the statements, suspected bandits infiltrated some border communities in the state an incident which the Council said raised concerns over whether the remarks were “premeditated or connected to the attack.”
According to the Commissioner, the Council resolved as follows:
Calling for the immediate investigation and arrest of former Governor Ganduje for allegedly attempting to create an illegal militia through the proposed Khairul Nas corps.
Warning public officials, including Senator Barau Jibrin, to desist from making statements capable of inciting violence or causing unrest.
Reaffirming appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security agencies for their sustained support in protecting lives and property in Kano.
Comrade Waiya emphasized that the state government remains committed to preserving peace and stability, warning that any attempt to incite crisis in Kano will be confronted with lawful and decisive action.
