Ahead of the next political dispensation, the ruling All Progressives Congress is currently in disarray in Kano State, following a silent war on who flies the party’s flag in the coming governorship elections.
Investigation by our correspondent revealed that contrary to the posture of the leaders of the party in the state, showing that they are together, working assiduously for the overall progress of the party, the situation on ground is to the contrary.
This medium reliably gathered that the leaders of the party are working at cross purposes, with each faction trying to outwit each other, so as to secure the ticket of the ruling party, in the coming gubernatorial elections.
According to the source, there are two factions of the party in the state, even as they are unanimous in ensuring the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, and ousting of the incumbent governor from power in the next dispensation.
It further revealed that the deputy senate president, Senator Barau Jibrin and the minister of state for housing and urban development, Mallam Yusuf Abdullahi Ata are leading one group, while the former governor of the state, Abdullahi Ganduje, as well as the state chairman of the party, Abdullahi Abbas are firmly in control of the other group.
It added that loyalists and supporters of the former governor, Ganduje, have impressed on their principal not to allow the Barau Jibrin led group to snatch the governorship ticket, as doing so would amount to vanishing into political wilderness; while they, the supporters would become politically irrelevant.
According to the source, the loyalists of Ganduje strongly believed that the deputy senate president in particular, cannot be trusted with power, as he is too smart and intelligent for their liking, maintaining that their principal should not even dream of controlling him, when he eventually enters Kano Government House.
However, a political analyst, Musa Abubakar in an interview, described the friction between the two groups as a cankerworm that would surely consume the APC in the tail end,, asking rhetorically, how can a group of people in disarray, be thinking of winning a gigantic battle?
He wondered what informed the members of the All Progressives Congress in Kano State to think that they can defeat the incumbent governor, in the gubernatorial polls, saying it remains a tall dream, considering the superlative performances of Governor Yusuf, across various sectors of the state economy.
According to the analyst, while the APC in Kano has become a house divided against itself, the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party is consolidating, due to the giant strides recorded by Governor Yusuf since his assumption of office.
Although the next governorship elections is a little bit far away, it remains to be seen, how the APC in the state intends to meander out of its present crisis of confidence, to confront and dislodge the Abba Yusuf led administration.
