Senator Ali Ndume, a lawmaker who has spent over 20 years in the National Assembly, has advised General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the newly appointed Minister of Defence, to ensure that the Nigerian military is placed on a direct salary payment system without passing through intermediary channels.
The former Senate Majority Leader, who has long advocated for improved salaries and welfare for the armed forces to boost their morale, said placing the military under the statutory transfer (First Line Charge) system would eliminate delays that hinder the quick procurement of weapons and military equipment in conflict zones.
He said:
“I congratulate him on this appointment, which everyone agrees is well-deserved. He should draw the President’s attention to the need to include the Nigerian Armed Forces under the First Line Charge.
“Beyond adequate funding for the Army, Navy and Air Force, it is extremely important that funds are released promptly. It is necessary to ensure that the military receives its full budget for major operations, otherwise activities will come to a halt.”
