Tension gripped Yagba East Local Government Area on Friday as security operatives intercepted a truck allegedly transporting 21 undocumented children into the area.
The operation, carried out by officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Yagba Area Command, Isanlu, followed credible intelligence provided by local community hunters who noticed suspicious movement involving the vehicle.
The intercepted truck, identified as a Mangal Cement vehicle with Kogi State registration number JMU 378XA, was found to be conveying children aged between 6 and 17 years. Preliminary checks revealed that none of the children had valid documentation, parental consent, or a clear explanation for their movement.
Security sources confirmed that three suspects were arrested at the scene. They include Rabe Samaila and Ibrahim Suleiman, alleged to be kidnappers, and Idris Muhammed, suspected to be involved in human trafficking.
Following the interception, the truck driver, the suspects, and all 21 rescued children were immediately transferred to Lokoja for further investigation, profiling, and welfare assessment. The children are currently under the supervision of the Kogi State Ministry of Women Affairs, while security agencies continue investigations.
Reacting to the development, the Yagba East Local Government Council issued a stern warning to transporters and truck operators, stressing that the movement of undocumented persons—especially minors—into the area will not be tolerated.
The Council also commended the swift response of the NSCDC and community hunters, reaffirming its commitment to protecting residents, combating trafficking, and ensuring the safety of lives within the Local Government.
This is a developing story. More updates shortly.
