Troops of the 8 Division Garrison of the Nigerian Army have neutralised five suspected bandits and recovered weapons and motorcycles during a coordinated security operation in parts of Sokoto and Zamfara states.
A military source disclosed to selected journalist in Sokoto that the operation commenced on Wednesday as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle bandit networks operating across the two states.
According to the source, the troops carried out targeted offensives on identified bandit hideouts in Gangara, Makawana, Satiru, Baici, and Kurkusu villages within Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
“The operation disrupted criminal activities in the area, forcing several bandits to flee as troops gained control of the affected communities,” the source said.
The military offensive also extended to Batamna village in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, where soldiers reportedly encountered resistance from armed criminals.
“In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, five bandits were neutralised, while weapons, motorcycles, and Baofeng communication radios were recovered,” the source added.
Our reporterr, however recalled that troops of the 8 Division Nigerian Army had earlier in December neutralised two notorious bandit leaders, identified as Kachalla Kallamu and Kachalla Na’Allah, during separate operations in Sabon Birnin and Isa local government areas of Sokoto State.
The Special Adviser to Governor Ahmad Aliyu on Security Matters, retired Colonel Ahmad Usman, alongside residents of the affected areas, has commended the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for their sustained operations against banditry in the state.
