Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the need to work closely with the federal government to accelerate development in the state.
Governor Yusuf made the announcement at the Coronation Hall of the Kano Government House, surrounded by top party leaders, including former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin.
The governor’s decision to join the APC comes after his resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on January 23, 2026, citing “deepening internal crises” and “prolonged leadership disputes” within the party.
Senator Barau has welcomed Governor Yusuf to the APC, pledging to work together to address the challenges facing Kano State.
Swiftly, Governor Yusuf’s defection is expected to strengthen cooperation with the federal government, accelerate development, enhance security, and improve service delivery in Kano State.
The APC has granted Governor Yusuf an automatic ticket for the 2027 governorship election.
