Kano State Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo, is facing a tough decision as he prefers resignation over impeachment. This follows Governor Abba Yusuf’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), while Gwarzo remained loyal to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso .
Impeachment proceedings against Gwarzo are being considered by loyal lawmakers in the Kano State House of Assembly, with analysts saying his options are limited to resignation or impeachment. The process of impeachment in Nigeria involves several steps, including:
– *Notice of Allegation*: A written notice signed by at least one-third of the members of the House of Assembly, alleging gross misconduct.
– *Investigation*: A panel of seven persons appointed by the Chief Judge investigates the allegations.
– *Resolution*: A two-thirds majority vote in the House of Assembly is required to adopt the panel’s report and remove the Deputy Governor.
Gwarzo’s fate depends on his conduct and the response of the executive and legislature. Some analysts believe he could emerge as Kwankwaso’s next governorship candidate if events unfold in his favor.
