Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II is expected to remain the Emir of Kano, according to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The governor’s spokesman, Sanusi Bature, stated that there’s no plan to remove Emir Sanusi from his position, citing that his appointment was done in accordance with the repealed emirates law.
The controversy surrounding the emirate began when Governor Yusuf repealed the 2019 Kano Emirate Council law, which led to the reinstatement of Emir Sanusi in May 2024.
However, the situation is still pending in court, with both Emir Sanusi and his rival, Aminu Ado Bayero, laying claim to the throne.
Governor Yusuf has urged Emir Sanusi to use his position to unite the Kano Emirate, emphasizing that his reappointment was based on his competence, credibility, and popularity.
The governor has also assured residents that the emirate dispute will be resolved amicably, emphasizing respect for the rule of law and traditional institutions. After, the defection of Abbah Kabiru Yusuf to APC, Aminu Ado pay homage to him as part of solidarity, while indication revealed that Emir Sanusi remain NNPP associates.
