Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, a former governor and current senator, has downplayed the influence of governors on election outcomes, citing examples of past elections where governors failed to deliver their states for their preferred candidates.
He specifically mentioned that Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, lost Lagos despite having the governor of his state as his right-hand man.
Tambuwal also pointed out that Simon Lalong, Tinubu’s campaign director and governor of Plateau State, couldn’t deliver Plateau, and that APC National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu and the governor of Nasarawa couldn’t win Nasarawa either .
Tambuwal’s remarks suggest that governors’ influence on election outcomes is often overstated, and that voters ultimately decide who wins. He also expressed confidence that if the election is free and fair, Tinubu will be defeated.
