Former Sokoto State Governor and current Senator, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of striking a “secret undemocratic deal” with state governors to secure their 2023 electoral victories at the Supreme Court.
Tambuwal claims the presidency intervened in judicial processes to pressure governors into aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in preparation for the 2027 elections.
He alleges that the independence of the judiciary has been undermined by political bargaining, with compromised verdicts and coercion via anti-graft agencies like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Tambuwal vows the opposition will resist any attempts to rig the 2027 elections, stating, “Nobody is going to write any results this time around”.
The APC has dismissed Tambuwal’s claims as a “failed attempt to rewrite the truth” and a “political witch-hunt”, pointing to allegations of financial irregularities during his tenure as governor, including a ₦117 billion probe.
