It is with a heavy heart and a profound sense of personal loss that I received the news of the transition of Alhaji Rabiu Bako, a veteran broadcaster, former Commissioner of Information, and a distinguished statesman.
Our paths crossed most significantly in 2014, during my tenure as the Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board. At that time, Alhaji Rabiu Bako served as our Amirul Hajj (Leader of Delegation).
Working side-by-side with him was an masterclass in leadership and diplomacy. I witnessed firsthand his tireless dedication to the welfare of Kaduna State pilgrims. He did not lead from the comfort of an office; he was on the ground in Makkah and Madinah, ensuring that every pilgrim’s needs were met and that the state’s image was upheld with the highest dignity.
”Alhaji Rabiu Bako was a man of rare calm and immense wisdom. In the high-pressure environment of Hajj operations, his experience as a seasoned communicator allowed him to bridge gaps and solve complex problems with ease. He wasn’t just my superior during that exercise; he was a mentor and a brother.”
His contributions to the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and the Kaduna State Executive Council left an indelible mark on the information sector. However, it is his service to the guests of Allah that I believe will stand as one of his greatest legacies.
I extend my deepest condolences to his immediate family, the Kaduna State Government, and the entire media fraternity.
May Almighty Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings, reward his selfless service to humanity, and grant him a place in Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.
Signed,
Kabiru Kasimu
Former Executive Secretary,
Kaduna State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board
