President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to democratic principles, national unity, and the rule of law, declaring himself a “die-hard democrat”.
Speaking at the State House in Abuja, Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria’s democratic journey over the past 26 years has been sustained through voluntary commitment and sacrifice by political actors across party lines.
Tinubu stressed the importance of respecting the rule of law and democratic processes, noting that disagreements should be resolved through dialogue and intellectual debate rather than threats.
He highlighted his decades-long struggle for democracy, including detention, exile, and forming the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO).
The President’s remarks came as he addressed leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Inter-Party Advisory Council, urging politicians to submit to the rule of law and prioritize national unity.
He also defended his decision to sign the Electoral Act, citing overwhelming National Assembly approval.
