The Supreme Court has adjourned the long-running Kano Emirate dispute between Muhammadu Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero to April 19, 2027.
The dispute centers on the legality of actions taken by successive Kano State governments regarding the restructuring of the emirate system and the occupancy of the Kano throne. The controversy began in 2019 when former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje created additional emirates, sparking widespread reactions and legal challenges.
In 2024, Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration repealed the law, reinstating Sanusi as Emir, which triggered fresh litigation. Since then, Aminu Ado Bayero announced himself legal and legitimate Emir of Kano. He was banned from his access to “Gidan Rumfa” and took over the mini Palace of Nassarawa.
The Supreme Court’s adjourned case for a final ruling.
