President Bola Tinubu has requested approval for a fresh $516m loan to fund the construction of the Sokoto-Badagry super highway. This project is part of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to boost economic growth, trade integration, and regional unification.
The 1,068km highway will connect Sokoto State in the northwest to Badagry in Lagos State, passing through Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos states. This project is expected to enhance transportation, stimulate agriculture, and increase cross-border trade with neighboring countries like Niger and Benin.
The project is being executed in phases, with Hitech Construction (Nig.) Ltd as the lead contractor. The Federal Government has allocated significant funds, including ₦553 billion for the Badagry-Oyo section, and is exploring public-private partnerships to ensure timely completion.
