A former Commissioner for Religious Affairs in Zamfara State, Sheikh Abdullahi Maharazu Mafara, was shot by suspected bandits while heading to an emergency APC meeting in Gusau. The incident occurred on Saturday, April 26, 2026, as he traveled from Talata Mafara to Gusau.
Mafara, a prominent Islamic cleric and former local government chairman, was ambushed by gunmen who opened fire on his vehicle, hitting him in the leg. He sustained a gunshot wound and was rushed to Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) for treatment.
