The African Democratic Congress ADC is stepping up its mobilization in Sokoto State, with a mega rally signaling the party’s intent to challenge the APC in 2027.
The event also brought renewed attention to former Commissioner and diplomat Faruku Malami Yabo, who is showing interest in picking the party’s governorship ticket.
The rally, held in Sokoto, drew thousands of supporters from across the state and neighboring Kebbi and Zamfara. It featured key opposition figures under the ADC-led coalition, including ex- Minister Yusuf Suleiman, former Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal, now Senator for Sokoto South Senatorial Seat.
Tambuwal used the gathering to criticize the APC-led federal government over economic hardship and insecurity, urging Nigerians to unite to unseat the ruling party in 2027. He described the ADC and its allies as the platform to galvanize that effort.
Ameachi, El-Rufai, were key figures in the new coalition, held strategic meetings with stakeholders, youth groups, and women from all 23 local government areas of Sokoto during the visit. He said the Sokoto engagement marks a critical phase in the coalition’s nationwide campaign ahead of 2027.
Yusuf Yabo’s name has surfaced repeatedly in ADC consultations. Reports list him among prominent Sokoto figures considering the ADC platform alongside former Minister Yusuf Suleiman, former Deputy Governor Manir Muhammad Dan Iya, and Sheikh Bashir Dan Fili.
Party insiders say Yabo’s diplomatic background and grassroots connections make him a viable option for the ADC ticket. His interest aligns with the coalition’s push to field credible candidates who can appeal across Sokoto’s political divides.
The ADC has stepped up grassroots mobilization through membership drives and community outreach to position itself as a credible alternative. Similar rallies are planned in other northern states to build momentum. Farouk Yabo was identified as major contender, who is likely to bring his mentor Wammakko down, if not retired him from active politics.
APC in Sokoto has dismissed the ADC threat, describing it as a recycled coalition without the capacity to win the state. The ruling party insists it will secure a landslide victory in 2027. 9102
As consultations deepen, Sokoto’s 2027 governorship race is shaping into a contest between incumbency, the ADC-led opposition, and a former ruling party seeking relevance. de26
Yabo’s next steps, including formal declaration and consultations with party structures, will determine how far his bid progresses within the ADC coalition.
