Former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, has accused Labour Party (LP) chieftain, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, of secretly working for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Shekarau’s criticism of Kwankwaso isn’t new, as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Media Director, Abdulhadi Adam, has also accused Kwankwaso of secretly meeting with President Tinubu multiple times, sparking concerns about his intentions.
The allegations have raised eyebrows, especially given Kwankwaso’s recent defection to the from ADC to NDC, which has been seen as a significant blow to Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Some analysts believe that Kwankwaso’s move strengthens the opposition’s chances, but others argue that an alliance between Kwankwaso and other opposition figures, like Peter Obi, may not be enough to unseat Tinubu.
Shekarau, a seasoned politician, has questioned Kwankwaso’s motives, suggesting that his actions are driven by personal interests rather than a genuine desire to serve the people.
According to Shekarau, Kwankwaso’s meetings with Tinubu are a clear indication of his intentions to undermine the opposition.
The ADC, however, has dismissed Shekarau’s claims as baseless and politically motivated. The party’s spokesperson argued that Kwankwaso’s decision to join the ADC is a strategic move to strengthen the opposition and challenge Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Kwankwaso, who defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has been a vocal critic of Tinubu’s administration. His decision to join the ADC has sparked speculation about his presidential ambitions, with some analysts predicting that he may run for president in 2027.
The 2027 elections are shaping up to be a closely contested battle, with Tinubu facing stiff opposition from various quarters. Kwankwaso’s defection to the ADC is seen as a significant development, but it’s unclear how it will impact the electoral landscape.
Some analysts believe that Kwankwaso’s move could split the opposition vote, ultimately benefiting Tinubu. Others argue that his presence in the ADC will strengthen the party and provide a viable alternative to Tinubu’s administration.
The allegations against Kwankwaso highlight the complexities of Nigerian politics, where alliances are often forged and broken. As the 2027 elections approach, expect more twists and turns in the country’s political landscape.
In the meantime, Kwankwaso has urged his supporters to remain calm and focus on the bigger picture. He reiterated his commitment to the ADC and vowed to work tirelessly to unseat Tinubu in 2027.
Shekarau, on the other hand, has called on the opposition to be cautious of Kwankwaso’s intentions, warning that his actions may be a ploy to undermine their efforts.
The drama unfolding in Nigerian politics is likely to continue, with more revelations and counter-accusations expected in the coming weeks.
