Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has approved the removal of his Principal Private Secretary, Deputy Chief of Staff, and several other political aides. The announcement was made on Monday, June 29, 2026.
According to the statement, the decision also affects Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, and other aides serving in different roles across the state government. It represents one of the widest reviews of the governor’s political team since 2023.
The Deputy Chief Press Secretary said the move is part of a minor cabinet shake-up. Government described it as a restructuring aimed at repositioning the administration for the next phase of governance.
Authorities explained that the changes are intended to “open space for more party members to participate in governance” and to bring new energy into the administration. The APC in Kwara has faced internal calls for wider inclusion in appointments.
The government stated that Governor AbdulRazaq appreciated all affected officials for their service to the state. It also wished them well in their future endeavors after leaving office.
All those affected were directed to properly hand over government property and documents in their possession to the office of the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, without delay.
The adjustment comes as the AbdulRazaq administration continues its work midway into its second term. Governors often reshuffle aides to balance loyalty, competence, and party demands ahead of key election cycles.
Analysts say the shake-up could ease internal APC tensions in Kwara by creating openings for loyalists who have been waiting for appointments. It also signals the governor’s intent to refresh his team before 2027.
With the removals confirmed, attention will now shift to who replaces the Principal Private Secretary, Deputy COS, and other key positions. The new appointees are expected to be announced in the coming days as the administration seeks continuity with renewed vigor.
