Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has taken an early lead in the Osun State governorship election as results continue to emerge from polling units across the state. Data uploaded by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) showed Adeleke maintaining an advantage over his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the results uploaded on the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV), figures from 3,292 out of the 3,763 polling units had been processed at the time of reporting. The uploaded results indicated a strong showing for both leading candidates, with the contest remaining one of the most closely watched off-cycle governorship elections in the country.
The uploaded figures showed Governor Adeleke polling 439,132 votes, while APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji secured 379,255 votes. This placed the incumbent ahead by nearly 60,000 votes, although the remaining polling units were yet to be fully uploaded and collated.
The ongoing collation has attracted nationwide attention, with political parties, observers and residents closely monitoring developments as INEC continues to receive and verify results from across the state’s 30 local government areas.
Election observers have commended the generally peaceful conduct of voting in many parts of Osun, while urging the electoral commission to ensure transparency and strict adherence to established procedures during the collation and declaration of the final results.
Supporters of both major parties have expressed confidence in victory, with campaign officials awaiting the completion of the collation process before making definitive statements on the outcome of the election.
INEC has maintained that only results officially collated and announced by its designated returning officers are valid. The commission also appealed to political parties and the public to remain patient and avoid spreading unverified information while the process continues.
Security agencies remained on alert across the state to maintain law and order throughout the collation exercise, assuring residents that adequate measures were in place to prevent any breakdown of peace.
As the remaining polling unit results are uploaded and collated, attention now shifts to INEC’s final declaration, which will determine whether Governor Ademola Adeleke secures another term in office or if the outstanding results significantly alter the current standings.
