The Emir of Gazargamu in Yobe State, His Royal Highness Alhaji Ahmad Tijjani Ibn Saleh, has died in Cairo, Egypt, after a prolonged illness. He passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, according to his son, Engr. Tijjani Hamisu Bala, who is the General Manager of the Yobe State Road Maintenance Agency.
Bala announced the monarch’s death with profound sorrow, describing his father as a “father, mentor and traditional ruler” who lived a life of wisdom, humility, courage, and dedication to serving his people. He prayed for Allah to forgive the late emir’s shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
The late emir’s burial arrangements were yet to be announced, and it was unclear whether he would be interred in Nigeria or Egypt. The news of his passing has been met with shock and sadness in Yobe State and beyond.
