Nasiru Gawuna, former Kano State deputy governor and 2023 APC governorship candidate, is reportedly negotiating with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for its governorship ticket in 2027. Gawuna, who recently left the APC, had initially joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) alongside Rabiu Kwankwaso’s Kwankwasiyya Movement but is now exploring alternatives.
The ADC has offered Gawuna significant incentives, including nominations for State House of Assembly and House of Representatives seats for his loyalists and substantial campaign funding. Gawuna’s camp has proposed a consensus arrangement, asking other governorship aspirants in the ADC to step down for him, citing his political strength in several local government areas.
This development has triggered a crisis within the NDC, with Kwankwaso’s move to join the ADC potentially altering the party’s dynamics. The ADC is also reportedly in talks with other opposition figures, aiming to build a strong coalition for the 2027 elections.
