The Kebbi State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of a 300-level student of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi, Zaharadden Nuhu, who died after sustaining injuries under circumstances yet to be determined.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Wednesday at a private residence in Kalgo Local Government Area of the state, a facility occupied mainly by students but not owned or managed by the university.
Police spokesperson in the state, SP Bashir Usman, said preliminary findings indicated that the student was found with injuries and was immediately taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kebbi, where he later died while receiving treatment.
According to him, the identity of the person responsible for the attack remains unknown.
Usman said a team of police officers visited the scene, secured the area and launched an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He added that efforts were ongoing to track down those behind the attack and ensure they are brought to justice.
The command appealed to residents of Kalgo and members of the university community to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information that could hamper ongoing investigations.
Police also urged anyone with useful information that could assist the investigation to come forward, assuring that such information would be treated with strict confidentiality.
