
Suspected bandits have abducted the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Hon. Nura Umar Bungudu..
Daily Trust reports attackers stormed Bungudu town Thursday night, heading straight to chairman’s residence in Zango area, less than 20km from Gusau.
A resident said gunmen overpowered security, killing two police officers and two vigilantes, including a volunteer who had been helping protect town, before whisking away chairman and family.
“They killed two policemen and two vigilantes… The bandits came determined to carry out their mission. The chairman’s security team put up resistance, but they were outgunned,” source said.
Gunmen initially abducted chairman, his wife and children, but security operatives rescued four or five children during pursuit.
“They kidnapped chairman along with his wife and children, but security personnel later rescued some children. Unfortunately, chairman was taken away,” he said.
Resident blamed heavy weaponry and informants, urging government to strengthen security in Bungudu and vulnerable communities.
