The Kano State Police Command has arrested a young woman accused of cutting her boyfriend’s genitals during a violent altercation. Police say the attack occurred after the man told her he planned to marry another woman.
The spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, made the disclosure in a statement posted on his official Facebook page. He described the incident as unfortunate and condemned the act.
According to the police, the suspect was apprehended shortly after the assault was reported. She is currently in custody at the Command Headquarters in Bompai, Kano, where investigations are ongoing.
The victim, who is the suspect’s boyfriend, sustained serious injuries in the attack. Police confirmed that he is receiving medical treatment at a hospital and remains under observation.
CSP Kiyawa said preliminary findings show that an argument broke out between the couple after the man informed the woman of his intention to marry someone else.
“The disagreement allegedly turned violent and led to the injury” kiyawa added.
The Command stated that detectives are still gathering more facts on the case. Statements from witnesses are being taken and evidence is being reviewed to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police authorities said the suspect will be charged to court once investigations are completed, while the Command also urged the public to avoid violence in resolving relationship issues and also report conflicts to relevant authorities for intervention.
