A middle-aged man, Abubakar Auwal, has died in Kano State after he was allegedly beaten by a mob for reportedly making advances toward a married woman, Hafsat Umar. The incident occurred in a residential area of the state and has drawn condemnation from community leaders and human rights groups.
Our reporter who spokes with a residents on the matter, said the confrontation began after Hafsat Umar raised an alarm accusing Auwal of repeatedly making unwanted advances toward her. The alarm attracted neighbors, and the situation quickly escalated into violence before security operatives could intervene.
According to Witnesses said Auwal was severely assaulted during the attack. He was later rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, but medical personnel confirmed he died from the injuries sustained. The body has since been deposited in a mortuary as investigations continue.
4. The Kano State Police Command said it has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. A police spokesperson confirmed that operatives visited the scene, and that efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest those involved in the mob action. No arrests have been publicly announced yet.
Community leaders in the area have urged residents to avoid taking the law into their own hands and to report disputes to appropriate authorities. They described the killing as tragic and called for calm while urging security agencies to ensure justice is served.
